Inbound Travel Insurance Requirement.

Under the new framework foreign visitors entering the United Republic of Tanzania through Mainland  Start on 01st October 2026 will be required to obtain inbound travel insurance from the National Insurance Corporation (NIC). For visitors entering Tanzania through Zanzibar or Outside Tanzania,As of 1 October 2024.Designated provider is the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). Purchase the Zanzibar policy from the official Zanzibar inbound insurance portal.https://inbound.visitzanzibar.go.tz/

The Ministry of Finance has clarified that where an emergency occurs within the United Republic of Tanzania the visitor will receive services from the insurance provider through which the inbound travel insurance was obtained subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy.

The inbound travel insurance will provide coverage against medical emergencies and will remain valid for a period of up to 92 days.

The premium has been set at USD 44 per visitor.International travelers are therefore strongly advised to make the necessary arrangements before travelling to Tanzania in order to facilitate entry procedures and minimize possible inconvenience or delays upon arrival

The mandatory Mainland Tanzania travel insurance is intended to cover four main areas:

  1. Emergency medical treatment – Treatment or assistance if a traveler becomes suddenly ill has an accident or suffers an injury during the insured period.
  2. Emergency medical evacuation – Transport to an appropriate medical facility when the required treatment is not available where the traveler is.
  3. Emergency repatriation – Medical repatriation or where applicable repatriation of mortal remains.
  4. Loss of luggage – Compensation for qualifying loss, theft, or permanent loss of personal baggage.
